Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Looking for high seas adventure this Memorial day weekend?! The latest Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales comes out today.

It’s been a while since I saw the last ones but I believe this one takes off where the last ones left off. Dead Men Tell No Tales of course features the lovable mess of a pirate, Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Depp. This film features a couple new characters as well as brings back beloved ones from previous films.

The focus is on the trio of Jack, Henry (a young sailor from the Royal navy who has ties to Jack) played by Brenton Thwaites, & Carina Smyth (a astronomer in a world where people think women astronomers are witches!) played by Kaya Scodelario. They must form an alliance to find the Trident of Poseidon to save themselves & their families.

I love a strong, brilliant female main role in a film & Carina is just that!

I’ve always liked Capt Barbossa played by Geoffrey Rush in the other Pirates of the Caribbean films & was happy to see him & his monkey back in Dead Men Tell No Tales!

The scariest parts of the film (in 3D no less) for me was the ghost sailors lead by Capt Salazar played by Javier Barden. The made me jump out of my seat a few times!

I think the PG-13 rating of this film would be what I’d stick with in terms of deciding whether or not to bring your children. For this one, keep kids at home with grandma & you, spouse & teens go enjoy the action of Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Here are a few kid’s crafts inspired by the movie to keep them occupied at home or after the film!

You can check out Disney Pirates for more photos & behind the scenes videos too.

Thanks to Walt Disney Studios for inviting me to the media preview this past week. While I appreciate seeing the film as a solo couple hours to myself, as always, my review is solely based on my own honest thoughts.

Five Minute Face

{side note, when I went to post this last Thursday afternoon, I realized my blog was broken. Turns out my theme had been unsupported for like 2 years. Who knew?! So new theme in process but trying to make sure posting now works!}
Back last year, I was able to get into the monthly Sephora box subscription. It had been years (like 4) since I’d regularly been applying make up, so I thought a $10 box of samples (with a how-to guide enclosed) might motivate me as well as introduce me to new products.
So here I am. About a year in & I’ve really enjoyed it. I smell better (thanks, sample perfumes)! And I now have a stocked purse make up bag, purse lip bag, an at-home make up bag & a travel make bag!
I’ve continued using my favorite for 10 years, Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer but I’ve added in primers, serums, eye creams, eye shadows, lots of mascaras, liners & even stepped my toes into the world of highlighters. Sometimes even for everyday.
Now listen, I’ll never be a YouTube beauty blogger, nor a big time beauty blogger. I’m firmly entrenched in my working Mommy on the go & always running late status. This means 95% of my make up applications are done in the car (at red lights!) or at my work cube. A product that’s quick, easy, mess-free & gets the job done wins my approval & meets my basic needs.
Last Thursday morning (aka 10am), once I’d had enough Diet Coke to really wake up, I did this 5 minute face. And I thought I’d share which products I love & used.
That’s from the top, NARS Velvet lip glide in Bound which I layered over pink Sephora lip stick.
Urban Decay Perversion mascara (which will occasionally smear a lil on oily days but OMGoodness my otherwise invisible lashes love it). See the difference?! Right with eye make up + mascara, left no mascara!
Glam Glow Glowstarter primer in nude (which I did a thicker layer of since I’d left my tinted moisturizer at home today).
Origins GinZing eye cream (my secret to minimizing puffy eyes from staying up til 1am watching 13 Reasons Why).
Laura Mercier Caviar eye colour in Rose Gold (I wear this all the time, takes .2 seconds to apply. This + mascara is my no-make up day make up).
Make Up Forever artist shadow in 1-544 (a great brownish, goldfish, pink color applied on bottom on lids).
& topped off with Honest Beauty lumizing powder in Midnight Reflection (free thank you with their Household box a couple months ago) as a highlighter on nose, around eyes.
(Top photos from Thursday morning, bottom at 4p)
That’s it.
What’s your busy day make up routine?
