And Then There was Blood

Breastfeeding at 10 months is all fun & games until someone gets hurt.

And by hurt, I mean bit {again}. And by bit, I mean 6 tiny teeth & blood & pain. And by blood & pain, I mean having to pump afterwards all that day at work.

No one said motherhood was easy.

A certain male baby is not deterred by my yelping & finger pointing & quick removal from nursing with Mommy. Lucy girl, on the other hand, cries when he does it, startled & sad. She gets comforted & all the nursing time while lil dude gets another fortified bottle. And I get Motrin & lanolin & probably a glass of wine.

{I’m not giving up on breastfeeding either babies at this point. Nor am I sharing photos of this. But this has happened two Sun nights/Mon mornings in a row. I’m open to suggestions &/or sympathy at this point.}

I can’t think of any suggestions as I usually do a loud NO and sometimes a tap on the head which causes her to cry like I took away her best friend, lol. If she does it again she is done feeding for a while. It’s only happened a few times with Evelyn and each time I know that she knows what she is doing. I think she is testing the boundaries. Luckily for me, no blood but she only has the two bottom teeth.

I hope he works through it soon.

I hope he works through it soon too. I think he knows what he doing too. I’ve seen him making the same biting motions on his bottles (teething chewing). When we see that, we take away the bottle & give him a wubba paci or teething toy.

I didn’t successfully nurse my kiddos, but we still had problems with biting. I was standing in front of the couch one day holding my oldest (about 10mo old) & she bit my shoulder. I yelped & dropped her. It was a reflex & she landed on the couch. She never bit me again. My twins weren’t so easy & even at 3.5, we still have problems with biting. They don’t bite me, but they bite each other & their big sister. Drives me bonkers. Time outs, scolding, being removed from the situation, etc, nothing works.

I’m afraid that might be coming. Lucy bit Zach on the shoulder last weekend & Zach’s bitten me on the shoulder too. At this point, we just push them off & say no from that too. Good times! :-/

Brooke never drew blood but also only bit me a couple times. I would break the latch and set her down and tell her she couldn’t do that to Mommy. I don’t know if that actually had any effect or if she just happened to stop.

I can only imagine trying to figure it out with two at the same time! Hope you guys can get it figured out!

Thanks Sarah! Yes, life with two is always interesting. I know Lucy gets the whole ‘no biting Mommy’ thing. Zach still doesn’t & doesn’t seem deterred by the usual ways of stopping him. We go back to his ped Mon, I might ask the LC there for help.
