Struggling with Solids

For the last month & a half, I’ve added a disaster to our nightly routine. The babies mostly hate it. It makes a huge mess. It’s time consuming when I have no extra time. My husband usually isn’t even home to help this disaster.

What’s happened to our busy-but-we-got-this routine? We’ve been introducing solids to Zach & Lucy.

I delayed starting solids for my preemies based on our thoughts & our pediatricians’ recommendations. But right after their 6 month checkup, I bought a box of Earth’s Best rice cereal, excitedly mixed it up with breast milk, grabbed my cell phone camera & got ready to experience the babies’ first taste of food. Not shockingly, they hated it & spit it out. That was Nov 28th.

Fast forward to this week & things aren’t much better.

It’s Back

Major TMI warning.

AF. Crimson Tide. Period. Time of the month. WTF is what I called out yesterday mid-morning.

I know I talked about AF’s unwanted arrival for 22 cycles. I thank God that time in my life is over. And after this post, I will hopefully not talk about my cycles again.

But I really thought {not sure why though} that while I continued to successfully breastfeed my duo, my period would stay away. No longer such luck.

I have been lucky enough to have been period-free since September 2011. So there’s that. I realized last night that this is my first unmedicated period since February 2011. Crazy, right?!

I’d honestly forgotten how it all worked, the PMS, bloating, zits, kinda moodiness & craving bread. Then of course the period itself & cramps. Good times being a girl are back y’all.

Badges with Style

Like most employees now-a-days, I have a work badge. But I never wear it. It stays in my purse for a couple reasons. One, so I don’t lose it. Two, because the ugly black lanyard is well, ugly & as silly as it sounds, doesn’t always match. And three, the photo is over four years old & isn’t great. Four, while out on bedrest/maternity leave, I lost the clip & lanyard. “Luckily,” I still have my badge.

But we got an email from the higher ups this week, politely demanding asking reminding us to wear our badges. So I’ve been in search of a cute, cool way to wear my badge.

I found this fabric flower badge reel on etsy & ordered it in green with an etsy gift card I was given from my boss for Christmas {apropo right?}. I’m still thinking that after work, I’ll take it off {so the babies don’t pull or break it} & then forget it the following day.

Any other suggestions? How do you wear your badge? Do you care that it’s cute? {Linking up with Liberating Working Moms Working with Style}

White Chocolate Devil’s Food Cake Cookies

I’d have sworn I’d pinned the recipe for these that I saw on pinterest just before Christmas. But of course, when I opened my boards with cake mix box & white chocolate chips in hand, it wasn’t there.

Instead of really winging it {impossible for me as a baker to do}, I searched pinterest. And though I was unable to find what I’d originally seen, I did discover pinch of yum’s version.  I wasn’t interested in all her add-ons, so I scaled our cookies back to the basics & they were a deliciously huge hit.

bad cell phone photo of really good cookies.

Ingredients

1 box devil’s food cake mix
1 egg
1 stick of butter
tsp vanilla
cup of white chocolate chips

Cream butter in stand mixer. Add in the egg & vanilla. Slowly mix in the box cake mix. Stir in the chips.

Place rounded spoonfuls on greased baking sheets. Bake on 350 for 10-12 mins or until beginning to crack.

Enjoy!

Happy New Year 2013!

Welcome 2013! Hope it’s started out with a bang if you wanted it & a silent night in my house!

I plan to do a 2012 recap soon of my favorite posts of the year. But for now, check out my {& the other LWM contributors} working mom resolutions.

To that list, I want to add making my marriage & adult connection with my husband a priority. Our life as a couple has taken a backseat to us being parents of two babies. I’m resolving to work on getting us back in 2013.

Do you have or make new year’s resoutions? Feel free to link up on LWM if you do!
