Twelve Weeks!

I’ve been meaning to post about our high-res/NT scan ultrasound from last Monday. But a crazy busy week got in my way. To summarize: Pregnancy brain hit & we were a half hour late {we had genetic counselor appt at 830 & U/S appt at 9, I just remembered the 9a appt time}, so we hung out in the lobby for a while & read a pregnancy magazine cover-to-cover, counselor was nice, ultrasound tech got impatient that babies B & C weren’t cooperating for the NT measurement=pain as she jabbed me, finally got measurements from A & C, all was better once we saw doctor who assured us babies looked awesome.

Photos of the ultrasound photos~ 11w2d A, B & C

I received a call midweek saying our babies chances for trisomy 13 & 18 were less than 1/10,000 & for Down’s less than 1/3382. So we’re happy.

I snapped these photos after I got home from the Tacky Sweater Party last night {I’ll post photos from there later}. The white top & sweater are non-maternity, & the top was too short with the belly to not wear a tank underneath! That grey blur in the bottom right of the photo was Moekitty walking into his bathroom for a potty break!

Twelve Weeks in Tacky Christmas amazingness!

How far along? 12w1d.

Maternity clothes? Absolutely for pants. I’m wearing my normal tops & sweaters for now while I still can.

Weight Gain? I’ll find out tomorrow at my check up but I’d think so.

Stretch Marks? No.

Sleep? Pretty good as I roll side-to-side in between getting up to pee.

Movement? They’re moving but I can’t feel it yet.

Genders? We hope & pray for healthy babies first & foremost. But I’d love to have boy/girl combos. Just a hunch but I kinda think B is a girl.

What I Miss? The ability to run around & have a super busy week & not be exhausted at the end of it. Doing something every night this past week kicked my butt. I’m learning I must slow my life down.

Symptoms? See above. Tired & hungry. But loving this pregnancy.

What I’m Looking Forward to? This week I’ve told work & just today announced this pregnancy on facebook. I’m glad everyone knows now & I can celebrate it openly. I’m looking forward to my appointment tomorrow for another chance to see the babies then a weekend with family & friends celebrating Christmas.

Weekly Wisdom? Drink plenty of water, enjoy all those Christmas cookies but remember to eat normal food too or you’ll wake up from a nap feeling like shit.

Milestones? Twelve weeks! Almost out of the first trimester! The babies are the size of limes this week. Their reflexes are developing including their hands opening & closing, mouths beginning to suck, toes curling & eye muscles clenching!

They’re Moving

Monday was our first meeting with our MFM {maternal fetal medicine aka high risk} doctors. I meant to post about it Monday night or yesterday, but I took some time to let it all sink in as well as sleep. The appointment lasted over two & a half hours.

First, I peed in a cup, was weighed {& the husband saw the number, eek!} & my blood pressure taken. We were taken to a room & met Jeanette our nurse. My doctor quickly came in & we chatted for a bit. Since I hadn’t had a pap in a while, next he did that as well as other normal ob/gyn appointment things. Then time for the fun stuff! Ultrasounds! We learned since there are three, a normal doppler doesn’t work {all heartbeats would be heard at once}. So we will have some sort of ultrasound at every appointment!

Our babies were given their first names: A, B & C. Baby A is down closest to my cervix & thus the easiest for a transvag ultrasound to see. & boy could we see baby A! I’ll post photos tonight, but we saw full body, hands punching, legs kicking & baby rolling around dancing for us. Baby B is to my left of A & looked good but a little fuzzier. Poor ninja baby C. It’s up there {a couple inches south of my belly button} so it was hard for the ultrasound to get a great picture of C. We heard heartbeats for all three {each was between 165-170}. Since we hadn’t gotten a super clear baby C picture, my doctor decided to try a belly ultrasound too. That was still kinda fuzzy but he was able to confirm, like my RE thought, that each baby has it’s own sac & placenta. He really doubts that any of them are identical.

Other fun stuff? The book that I’m using as my triplet guide by Barbara Luke, my doctor knows her & swears by it too! He thinks her calorie & weight gaining guides are a little high. He wants be to make 3000 calories a day my goal & to gain 50 pounds over the pregnancy. So far, I think I’ve gained about 10 pounds.

I decided I’d start keeping track of calories {based on doctor kinda asking me to see if I was hitting 3000}, so yesterday I re-downloaded myfitnesspal app. Ha! It won’t let you put in to gain more than a pound a week & it cuts off calorie max at 2600. Oh app if you only knew! Thanks to PW’s chicken spaghetti dinner, HT brand cheesy garlic bread & Oreo ice cream, I think I came pretty close yesterday! I have to say eating that much that often is kinda exhausting but I’m hearing over & over how important it is so I’m doing it. You could set a watch by my every two hour eating schedule!

We finished off the appointment with blood work. Five viles of it. I suck at blood work~ I’m scared & my body doesn’t like to give up blood. I was poked in the left arm & the tech got enough for two viles before that vein said no more. Then she tried the right arm but my veins kept jumping on her. So she went to my right hand. At this point, I was almost crying & called Husband back to hold my hand. She was able to get blood out of my hand enough for the last viles. Holy crap that wasn’t fun & I’ve got bruises to prove it.

Next up, the high resolution 11 week ultrasound next Mon which will also check for Down’s. Luckily, it’s at their close-by practice instead of us driving 35 minutes to Chapel Hill. He wants to see me every three weeks or so & Mondays seem to be their see-patients day. But three weeks from Monday is the 26th & they’re closed; the following Monday is the 2nd & they’re also closed. My dr didn’t want to wait until Jan 9th, so we’re going back to UNC on 12/19. Yay for seeing babies {& doctors & copays} three Mondays in a row. Our frig is going to be packed with baby ultrasound photos. I can’t wait.

Ten Weeks

Double digits! No longer embryos! Full time maternity pants! Welcome to week ten.

Midmorning photo before daytime girls movie gtg

I snapped photos before I ran out the door to meet some friends Saturday. I didn’t even look to see how they turned out & sadly the front facing shots were really blurry. Clothes in the photo above are courtesy of Suzanne aka pretty swell {thank you!}.

How far along? Ten Weeks today.

Maternity Clothes? Heck yeah! I bought a few more & sweet Suzanne of pretty swell graciously passed down a bunch of pants & tops to me Thursday night. I feel so  much more comfortable in them, although there’s no hiding the belly in maternity clothes!

Weight Gain? Haven’t weighed myself but I’d think so. Will probably find out at Monday’s appt.

Stretch Marks? No.

Sleep? I added pillows on either side of me & am more used to side sleeping, so I’m sleeping better. I swear ice cream before bed helps too.

Movement? Not yet.

Genders? We hope & pray for healthy babies first & foremost. But I’d love to have boy/girl combos.

What I Miss? Doing as much as I want without being exhausted. I tried running errands after work a couple days this week & it kicked my butt a little. Of course I’m tired on the weekends too so not sure when things like cleaning, Christmas decorating & finishing up shopping will occur.

Symptoms? As long as I eat every two hours, I feel pretty darn good. I have some end of the day lower back pain which I know comes with carrying three babies.

What I’m Looking Forward to? Monday’s appointment. I can’t wait to meet the MFM doctor & hear what he says to help us bring these trips into the world.

Weekly Wisdom? Eat. Drink water {I get headaches when I slack on water}. Rock maternity pants. Comfort is amazing.

Milestones? The babies are the size of kumquats {anyone actually seen one of those?} & are now fetuses {sp?} with all their parts. My baby center app says they have peach fuzz hair & nails, swallowing fluid, can move their limbs & thus are kicking.

Nine Weeks

This is my 500th post. Wow! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We were surrounded by family from both of our sides & enjoyed a great weekend with them.

Another ponytailed, makeup-less photo. This time post 5.5 hour car ride home.

How far along? Nine weeks Saturday so 9w1d today.

Maternity Clothes? After not being able to zip & button a bigger pair of work pants this week, I wore the BeBand with unzipped pants & broke down & purchased a pair of maternity khakis & jeans. The khakis I wore this weekend & wondered why I’d put off that maternity panel so long!

Weight Gain? Haven’t weighed myself but I’d think so.

Stretch Marks? No.

Sleep? Lots of tossing back & forth. Enough that after one night together in a double bed, Jason moved over to the twin in our room at my grandparents’ to give us both better nights’ sleep. Last night I woke up at 12:30, 1:37, 3:34 & 7:30 to pee. I had to get a snack at 4 too. I’ll be off to bed early tonight.

Movement? Not yet.

Genders? We hope & pray for healthy babies first & foremost. But I’d love to have boy/girl combos.

What I Miss? Sleeping on my tummy/back without waking up & having to roll over. I think I’m going to start surrounding myself with pillows so I stay on my sides.

Symptoms? The bump that especially appears after eating this week. And the hunger.

What I’m Looking Forward to? More maternity pant wearing this week which will mean more comfort. Counting down the days until our first MFM doctor appointment {8}.

Weekly Wisdom? Rest when you’re feeling tired. My family is all about the go, go, go. This weekend we experienced that I can no longer do that. I found chairs in every store we went into. Also smile & share in everyone’s excitement. I think Nana told at least one person everywhere we went all weekend that I was pregnant with triplets. She’s so proud & excited.

Milestones? The babes are the size of grapes this week & about an inch long.

Baby closet craziness

I started this post back in August {at the beginning of my Infertile Fridays} but had been holding off on hitting publish until I had a chance to take photo evidence to reveal my baby stuff hoarding secret.

Before I was even engaged, I’d amassed a pile of wedding related things I hoped to use. Favorite programs, invitations, photos I’d taken of friends’ flowers & dresses. I had ideas of location, time of year & colors. I’m a planner & it made it much easier once that ring was on my finger & the real planning needed to be done.

That said, you shouldn’t be surprised that I’ve slowly been gathering future baby things over the last couple of years. Enough that there has been a “future baby closet” for a while. It’s the closet of our office/man cave/future nursery/junk room so it works. It began when I saw the Vera Bradley owl pattern was being retired & thus the baby bag was on major sale. I love the versatility of that pattern & knew several friends who’d enjoyed that bag. A quick click or two online & it was at our doorstep. Then one day I was shopping at Target {before we were even TTC} and noticed there was an owl themed gender neutral set on sale. I went home, discussed with Jason then bought it, crib sheets & all. Nothing like being prepared way before the fact right?!

Then I discovered blog giveaways. Free baby stuff. And next thing I knew a Sophie, ruffle butt training pants, a Bird E Studios diaper wristlet, a nursing cover & an owl patterned cloth diaper were added to the closet. Then the Haute Green party at BlogHer happened & I very happily came home with eight more cloth diapers, wipes, cloth diaper laundry detergent & a Fuzzi Bunz to-go wet bag. Another cloth diaper {Soft Bums} was won recently & I also received burp wraps earlier this fall. Yep, all this before my first positive pregnancy test.

& since we announced our news, my super sweet friend Kelly gave us our first future baby gift. A precious owl lovey! I’m obsessed! My parents brought down a five pack of teeny tiny newborn onesies last weekend.

While she was in town to help, Mom & I went through the baby stash at the bottom of this closet. Of course all the ones of things need to be multiplied by three now! We organized the crib set {& later discovered at Target that while they no longer sell that one, Circo still makes another neutral one that will coordinate}, put all the toys in the diaper bag, & all the super cute cloth diapers in the tote bag. Ignore the mess, as this has been my secret closet until now…

my no-longer-so-secret baby stash

Am I the only one who pre-baby hoarded tiny little things?
