Tornado After Effects

Thank God, our house and neighborhood were not damage by last Saturdays tornadoes. They were close by so Moe & I hit in the bedroom {close to the bathroom}. Then he fell asleep {clearly he wasn’t scared of the wind & rain}.

Sadly not everyone was so lucky. And the storms meant lots of claims for my company. As a former claims dept employee, I volunteered to go back to my old office to help. I got to the claims office before 745a & didn’t leave until after 630p today {which also meant no time for emails, twitter or blogs}. It was a long day but I think I got a lot of paper work done which freed up others to do claims work. I’m going back there again tomorrow. The claims dept is working Friday & Saturday too but we’re off the the beach! Working for the fun, my friends.

Project 365 Fifteen weeks in

Day 99: Saturday I didn’t take any photos.

Sunday, day 100, I loved the light on Moe while I was in the red chair & Moe was looking up at me with the light to his back. Here’s my two favorite.

Day 101: The pink azalea was out in full effect Monday after work before I made over our Owly guest bath.

Day 102: My new Stella & Dot ring arrived the day before. I love it~ especially at the $19 price!

Day 103 Wednesday I enjoyed a Strawberry Margarita cupcake & Moe looked shall I say dainty with his paws together before drinking water.

Day 104 Thursday I smiled all day wearing my new allora handmade mini modern rosette necklace. Love it! {Photo taken from the self potrait front-facing camera on my cell.}

Day 105 Friday the only photos I took were of my jpk bucket bag showing my friend Sarah the lack of wear/tear after 5 month exclusive use. She bought one Saturday morning. 🙂

All these photos except for Sundays’ are from my cell. My goal for week 16 will be more from the D5000.

Owly Bathroom

Remember in the home tour & again in the guest room re-do seeing that I have owl all over our houses?! Well, the guest bathroom was pretty much owl free. It’s had a beachy theme which I’ve been just fine with. But after 5 years, I was ready for a little change.

So when I saw these featured on The Owl Barn from Target, I was smitten. I looked for the set at a couple area Targets before going on my phone & realizing I’d missed the dreaded “online only”. I sat on it for a couple days before taking the plunge & buying the shower curtain & lotion/soap pump online. Hello guest bathroom re-do!!

I removed the beachy themed decorations & added in a few owls that I already had. Instead of little beach frames to the right of the shower, I’ve now hung two wooden frames. Might need to update the photos in them though.

I returned the toilet seat cover because I couldn’t keep the seat up with it on. I’ve decided I need want the soap dish {the current white one holding ‘B’ soap bar is boring} & toothbrush holder to complete the set. The trashcan now doesn’t match either. I need a covered one to keep Moe {who’s a fan of the redo!} out of it so I’ll probably pick up a basic white one of my next Target trip.

Strawberry Margarita Cupcakes {revisited}

I’ve never done this before, but this recipe is the number one search that brings random people to this blog. Hi! 🙂 {My posts about my Lilly Pulitzer scarf are a close seconds.}

I relooked at the cupcake post this weekend. Just mentioning them, Jason said you have to make those cupcakes! I thought my coworkers might enjoy them too. So after realizing I had all the ingredients {minus the lime} on hand, I decided to make them Tuesday night. I’m reposting because {1} the original photos are horrible {2} the fonts weird & {3} it’s a three year old post!

So if you followed me back in 2008 {praise you!}, you can ignore this post {or come over & have a cupcake}. I have to say they’re just as good as I remembered! I know I’ll make them a few more times this spring/summer.

Ingredients
box of white cake mix
can of frozen margarita/daiquiri mix, thawed
2 tbsp vegetable oil
3 egg whites
1 tbsp lime zest

Preheat oven to 350.
Combine cake mix, margarita mix, egg whites, & oil in stand mixer. Stir in zest.

Filled well greased or cupcake papered muffin pans 2/3 full. Bake 22-24 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. I let cool for a few minutes in the pans before transferring to cooling rack.

Lime Cream Cheese Icing
Ingredients
1 stick butter, softened
1 pkg cream cheese {light ok}, softened
2 tbsp lime juice {I squeezed the post-zested limes}
1 tsp lime zest
4-5 c powdered sugar

Cream softened butter & cream cheese, juice & zest until light & fluffy. Add 4 c sugar 1 c at a time. I ended up doing 4.5 c sugar.

We don’t love a ton of icing on our cupcakes so this icing recipe will be enough for making 2 sets of the cupcakes. {I froze the unused half.} I also attempted to “professionally” ice these babies. But later last night decided they looked weird & smoothed them out.

These cupcakes were dessert last night, breakfast this morning & again dessert tonight. I’m taking them to work tomorrow & to save us from eating all 23!

Baby Brianna

Baby Brianna was supposed to be born via scheduled C-section last Wednesday. Instead she surprised her parents {& big sis Lexie} by arriving Sunday morning. Which meant things were a little hectic for them as they had things all planned out for later in the week!

Dad Keith {my husband’s coworker} was picking his mom up from the airport, & Lexie was staying with another of their friends. New mom to 2 under 2, Jen & I were able to hang out with tiny baby Brianna last Tuesday night while they were having their last night at Rex Hospital. I went after book club around 7. We got to chatting, enjoying baby snuggles & walks around the halls, next thing I knew, it was close to 10p! So fun & I’d never been to Rex baby center so I enjoyed checking it all out. So glad I remembered my D5000 to capture these freshly baked baby shots.

Jen was doing great & y’all can see, Brianna is just precious! She went from Jen to their daycare provider {who also stopped by} then my arms like it was nothing. I was LOVING that skinny baby legs & feet! Brianna also enjoyed chillin’ in the bassinet with that paci. We’re looking forward to going to visit this family at home soon.
