Cheryl’s shower & batchelorette night!

Two weekends ago a group of us from college headed down to Greenville, SC to throw a shower for our friend/sorority sister/old roommate Cheryl. We did a wine themed shower: we served three different types of wine with cheese pairing, grapes, more cheese & crackers, chicken salad sliders, pasta salad, hummus & veggies & ranch dip. All of the hostesses were from out of town and most of us had a slumber party at Cheryl’s house Friday & Saturday night. Instead of booking a restaurant that we didn’t know about, we took over Cheryl’s house as the shower location. Saturday morning we ran around like crazy kids putting it all together, but everything came together and the shower was a success! The guests were a good mix of college & grad school friends, his family, & her mom (who flew in as a surprise!). Our friend Carrie made the cutest wine tags as favors.

We relaxed at her house for a few hours before getting ready for the night out! We started with dinner at Smoke on the Water. Our next stop was Soby where Cheryl’s first shots of the evening took place. Then we walked up & down the main downtown street in Greenville~ we chatted at this sushi places & Carrie & Brehon did sake bombs! Then we hit up more college age bars which made us feel old but we still had fun! The last place of the night had a great bartender who gave us shots on fire! Yay for occasions to get together & have a girl’s night out with great friends!
Downtown Greenville was really cool. I’m looking forward to heading back down there for Cheryl & Brian’s wedding at the end of October. More good times for sure!

Book Club

I tried my best (kinda) to finish the recent books for the Nestie book club and I’ve failed! I didn’t finish Revolutionary Road (and after hearing the discussion don’t plan to). This month’s selection was A Freewheelin’ Time. It was a memoir about the author Suze Roloto who dated Bob Dylan in the 60s. I probably read half of it but I lost interest and just started flipping through the pages. My copy was large print and that was annoying me too. It was way over due at the library (sorry whoever wanted it weeks ago!) so I just gave up and returned it. I’m interested to see what everyone else thinks of it at our meeting Wed night (I think the only thing I liked was her name!).
I’ve moved on to more fun books for the end of the summer. I just finished Rebecca Wells newest, The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder, which I really enjoyed. This is the same author of the Ya-ya books which made me laugh & cry just like Calla did. It was a great beach read while I was at the beach on Saturday.
Next up is Toni McGee Causey’s Bobbie Faye’s Family Jewels. I loved the first book about Bobbie Faye which I read on our honeymoon and this one looks equally as funny. I must be in a LA book mood because it’s the setting for both my most current reads!
I’m also looking forward to next month when we’re reading Julie & Julia (if I can ever get it from the library!!). Happy reading to me.
