WIWW {first edition}

Two posts in one day! Be sure to read down to see Suzanne’s Going to BlogHer? guest post.

I’ve been seeing WIWW {what I wore Wednesday} posts popping up on some of my favorite bloggy places. I decided I’d attempt to join in with Lindsey from the Pleated Poppy. So far I’ve learned it’s hard to take a good self portrait in our house {we don’t have a long mirror in a well lit room} & Jason isn’t always home to be my photographer.

Thursday after work.

tank: LOFT last year
skirt: Boden
jewelry: Tiffany heart necklace, random silver ball earring, DY ring.

Friday work & then dinner out with friends. Also learned these super comfy khakis are not flattering.

khakis: Old Navy {changed into} jean skirt: Boden
flip flops: Lilly Pulitzer McKims {from Ruelala}

headband: 25 Design

Saturday dinner out with friends.

under tank: Old Navy
jeans: Gap
flip flops: Jack Rogers {from shoes.com}
jewelry: stella & dot coco bracelet, usual watch & DY bracelet, Belk gold studs, gold English coin necklace passed down from Ma.

Monday work & Target run.
[flickr id=”5931959681″ thumbnail=”medium” overlay=”true” size=”medium” group=”” align=”center”] cardigan & tank: Lands End {yep, at $12, I bought it in two colors}
khaki capris: Loft {also looking frumpy at 6p}
flip flops: Jack Rogers

I liked my Tuesday outfit {light pink Lilly tank, black 3/4 length Loft cardi, black & white Target skirt}. But the 100+ degree temps made me look more drowned rat than cute Suz after work so no photo.

The Giver

My book club originally chose Corelli’s Mandolin for July. Only one of us got through it. So in mid-June, we switched things up & re-picked The Giver by Lois Lowry. This is one of those books that I would have sworn I’d been forced to read in HS. I think it’s on most YA school lists.

But halfway through I realized, this wasn’t familiar, I hadn’t read it, & I couldn’t wait to figure out what happens. You connect to boy, Jonas, who’s the main character as well as The Giver himself. At the end {maybe spoiler alert}, I still am not sure what happened. I was a bit disturbed by it & hope & pray our world doesn’t turn out like this in the future.

I’m really looking forward to our book club discussion Wednesday night & will probably update this post with more thoughts afterwards.

Summer Rental & If You Were Here

I promised book reviews for two beach reads weeks ago but am just getting around to it.

As y’all know I’m frugal & typically stick with the library or paperbackswap to receive books. But when I saw the latest Mary Kay Andrews‘ book Summer Rental at Costco, I couldn’t wait. I have adored everything she’s written. Southern, quick light reads but with a little more depth & punch than your average “chick lit”. As you can guess by the title & cover, it’s about friends who put aside their normal everyday lives for a month & take off to Outer Banks. Loved that it’s set in NC & the women are my age so I can definitely relate. I’m even considering hanging on to this one for a re-read {which I rarely do due to lack of space}. Also due to fact that before I’d even open the cover, I spilled a tiny bit of water into it while in my beach bag {thus making it ineligible for PBS}.

If You Were Here is Jen Lancaster‘s new book. This one is harder for me to review because I have triple puffy heart *loved* each & every one of her memoirs. Like laugh-til-I’m-hysterically-crying-&-Moe-&-Husband-are-looking-at-me-funny loved. I wanted so badly to get that with If You Were Here which is her first go at fiction. I heard Jen’s distinctive voice loud & clear, but I kinda missed something. Hard to put my finger on it. While I was fine with it, even enjoyed it, I definitely didn’t love it & for me it fits into that big pile of average “chick lit”. I wanted so badly for this to be more but it just wasn’t for me. But if you’re looking for light-hearted summer reading, it’s fun & Jen’s funny still shines through in parts. I will definitely read what’s next from her though so don’t think I’m off the Jen Lancaster wagon ~ whether or not it’s another stab at fiction.

Lavender Worlds Best

Back at the end of May, Worlds Best Cat Litter sent me a bag of their new Lavender litter for Moe to try. I added some into his litter box once we got back from Memorial Day beach weekend & have continued to add it in after removing dirty litter for the last month.

[flickr id=”5899012119″ thumbnail=”medium” overlay=”true” size=”medium” group=”” align=”center”] {yes, I did just post of photo of my cat doing “my business”. He’s ok with it.}

Moe hasn’t minded the change one bit. I haven’t noticed any changes with him & his litter habits. Within the last week, I’ve noticed just how strong the lavender scent is as it had kind of taken over that end of the house. While I like the smell of lavender, I have now began to mix the lavender scent in with the multi-cat litter we love.

I have not yet been able to find the lavender litter in my local Target or Petco {my usual pet purchase spots}, but I do plan to continue to use it along with the WBCL multi-cat version.

While WBCL did awesomely send me Moe a bag of the new lavender litter, our opinions are all our own.

Lilly Love

Did y’all participate in Wear Your Lilly to Work day Tuesday? I did although I didn’t take any photos of myself that day {too busy working then enjoying a coworker happy hour}. I wore the Worth shift I bought at last year’s Warehouse sale. It’s the same one I’m wearing in my photo to the right. I dressed it down with a short sleeved white cardigan, basic gold jewelry & platium Jack Rogers.

I’d hoped to stay up to midnight last night to take full advantage of the 48 hour Lilly signature shops online sales. I was exhausted from staying up late Mon & Tues night {finished Room in two days!}, so I went to bed.

First thing at work this morning though, I went to Splash of Pink & The Pink Pelian websites. I found three tops at Splash of Pink, but I didn’t hit “buy” quick enough & the Bright Navy was purchased by someone else. I now have the Lexie short sleeve tops heading my way in Starfish Yellow & Preppy Green & the Heather tank in Lilly Pink. At $19 each, I think it’s a good price for basic tops that I will wear year round~ on their own now & under caridgans & sweaters in the fall & winter. I’ll update with photos once they arrive!

Did you buy anything?
