Owl Baby Shower

The babies & I were celebrated this past weekend with our first babies shower. It was hosted by four of my best college friends, Kelly, B, Beth & Cheryl.Owl baby shower hostessesThe ladies worked their butts off & everything was perfect ~ from the invites & decor to the food & drinks. They served fruit skewers, chicken salad rolls, pimento cheese sandwiches, spinach dip, & veggies. We had lime & lemon flavored water as well as the best punch! And mini Gigi’s cupcakes for dessert while playing the “guess how big around Suz is” string game {Nana won!} & then I opened gifts.owl baby shower foodSo many gifts! Our family & friends have really spoiled the babies already. My SIL made two cloth diaper wreaths for the babies! They’re too pretty to use & are currently hanging on the nursery doors.owl baby gifts & wreathMost of these friends are from my college Chi Omega days, so owl themed gifts were galore! A homemade owl blanket from my friend Sarah, big stuffed owl & framed owl from my aunts, owl bib & humidifier as well as a fabulous ΧΩ onesie from Kim, owl baby hats from Steph, owl burp cloths from Kristen, an owl changing pad cover from Mom & Nana, an owl Boppy from B’s mom,  & even an owl lovey from Jessica!

All the Chi Os, the basket full of books, me & the hostesses, & Lily left with all the balloons!

The special hostesses came up with the idea for the guests to bring signed books for the babies instead of cards. Kelly made a “books” sign for a pretty basket & we put all the books in there. My mom & Jason’s mom actually gave us a bunch of the books we read & loved as children. That was so special! The whole day was special. I can’t wait to see the babies using, playing, wearing all the gifts & for my friends to meet the babes!

Eating for Triplets

I’m guessing y’all might be wondering what it’s like to be eating for four. I want to remember it myself, so I thought I’d share a quick post.

I eat every two hours or very close to that. If I don’t, I know it & if you’re around me you’d know it too~ I’m hungry, cranky, & whiny. I’m actually better at keeping up with eating during the week. I pack a huge lunch bag full of food & supplement that with my work’s cafeteria. Over the weekends my schedule varies more & I get busy or am sleeping so I don’t eat & drink as regularly. I’m trying to get better at that, but for this post, I’ll focus more on weekday food. Remember my MFM wants me to eat about 3000 calories & I try to drink close to 100 oz of liquid {tons of water all day long}.

I’ve always done cereal for breakfast & continue to do so {around 8a on weekdays}. I switch between Honey Nut Cheerios & Frosted Flakes with Special K with red berries thrown in occasionally. My MFM suggested I switch from skim to whole milk for added calories & fat. I haven’t been able to make the jump to whole, but we do use 2% now.

For probably close to six or more weeks straight, I walked downstairs to the cafeteria & got two scrambled eggs with cheese & a plain bagel for second breakfast around 10:15a. NYE weekend though, I made scrambled eggs at home & they grossed me out so much that I haven’t eaten them since. Recently, I’ve been eating fruit &/or yogurt as a mid-morning snack. I’ve switched to Greek yogurt for the added protein. I’ve found I like Trader Joe’s drinkable pomegranate ones, Trader Joe’s mango Greek yogurt, & YoCrunch just came out with Greek yogurt that’s pretty awesome too.

Lunch {1230p} varies a little more than breakfasts. If we have leftovers from dinner the night before, I’ll sometimes bring them. I eat a lot of peanut butter sandwiches ~ either PB&J or PB&B {banana}. We usually have Target goldfish, pretzel crisps, &/or pita chips at home & those are easy for lunch/snacks too. Hummus works with those if we’ve got it. I usually also get a dark greens salad topped with a ton of veggies & fatty delicious Parmesan peppercorn dressing from the salad bar at work. If I didn’t eat my yogurt for second breakfast, I’ll eat it for lunch dessert. Oh & I’m sometimes wild & crazy & have sweet tea/sprite/diet coke to drink instead of water at lunch.

Second lunch aka afternoon snack is around 245p. I’ll have a cheese stick & leftover chips/crackers. Or an apple & peanut butter. Occasionally almonds & I always have dried mangoes on hand. Ok & maybe there’s a little donut slipped in! I tend to snack for the last couple of hours at work.

I usually nap &/or chill on the couch as soon as I get home from work & then am hungry for dinner 6ish. After the food planning all day long, I’m pretty over the idea of cooking/meal planning at night. Luckily, back in November my mom & aunt came over & stocked my freezer with mini-casseroles. We just finished the last of those. My sweet friend Kelly {hi!} brought over a few more casseroles a couple of weeks ago that work great for nights when I’m tired. We also tend to have frozen pasta bags & frozen pizza that can be made quickly. Jason’s been a bigger help than pre-pregnancy with cooking. I’ll eat chicken but don’t like to mess with it, so he’ll man the oven & can make a mean Kraft mac’n’cheese. We try to do some veggies with dinner also but veggies are one food group I know I’m not making Dr Luke’s goal in. If I want an after-dinner dessert, I’ve been recently grabbing a YoCrunch pie parfait {I love the triple berry pie flavor best}.

A couple hours later, depending on when I go to bed, I’ll either have a snack {maybe dinner leftovers} or jump to my pre-bed ice cream. I read early on in this pregnancy that eating dairy before bed will stay with you longer & let you not wake up hungry. This is so true for me! I occasionally have cereal but typically have strawberry or Oreo ice cream. Top them off with water, prenatal vitamin & iron supplement & I’m off to sleep!

While YoCrunch has provided me in the past with coupons & recently sent me samples of their Greek yogurt & brand new pie parfaits, I was buying & enjoying them before & the opinions written above are all my own.

Thankful on a Tuesday

As I review the last couple of weeks worth of pregnancy updates, I feel like my love of this pregnancy might not have really shown through. I was changing into pjs last night and took a moment to stretch my hands around & across the babies’ belly. Just to enjoy the moment. To wonder at the miraculousness that is any pregnancy much less my triplet one.

I know all moms-to-be {or at least most of them} are happy to be pregnant, but after all the work & prayers that went into us being pregnant, I can’t help but feel extra grateful. Extra joyous. This is not to mean that those who accidentally get knocked up or that the lucky ones who’s bodies cooperate the first time they tried don’t feel grateful. But I’m thinking about myself & these babies. And our overwhelming sense of love already.

I want to say thank you to friends and family for their generosity so far with this pregnancy. For friends who’ve passed down their maternity clothes to me. For friends who’ve offered to let me borrow their not-being-used baby supplies. For friends who’ve given birthday & Christmas gift cards to maternity & baby stores. For Jenny for giving us 7 bins worth of newborn-6 month clothes. For friends & family who’ve offered to come over to hold babies, bring food, & do laundry. I promise I will take y’all up on that!

To my husband. Who’s already being the sweetest, most excited Dad to these trips. I’m grateful for the times when he brings me water/bananas/ice cream when I’m too tired/hungry to get up to get them myself.  I half woke up Friday night after I’d rolled over to face him to find his hand had reached out to touch & rub the babies’ belly. He was half-asleep himself but making sure I was on my side & that they were doing well.

I always thought it was a little strange when I saw moms-to-be placing their hands on their bellys or even rubbing it. But now I get it. Not only does that make any itchy, stretched skin feel better, even though I can’t yet feel them, I love just knowing that their under my hands. I also am learning that while my pre-pregnancy self would’ve been totally weirded out by someone touching my chub, I don’t mind at all if friends reach out to touch the babies’ belly. I’m just thankful for their concern, excitement, support & love.

Happy {late} birthday to me!

Sunday was my 30th birthday. Thank you to all those who helped make me feel special with birthday tweets, FB comments, emails, texts & phone calls!

Sunday morning was spent with my grandfather & aunt in Charlotte along with a special quick visit with my friend B. Brunch was delicious at Papa’s clubhouse, and then Sue & I headed back home.

I arrived back in Raleigh in time to opening birthday cards that I’d held off opening when they arrived in the mail and run to the grocery store before meeting friends for a laid back birthday dinner. Some of the girls came back to the house for birthday cake & Wii {post to come on that tomorrow}.

Feelin' Good at 30!

Work decorated my cube with streamers, balloons & a birthday sign Monday morning. That was so fun to see when I got back from our appt {which I promise to write about & share photos from soon!}. I also decided Monday that I’d share my “I’m pregnant time three” news. Everyone’s been really cute & excited for us.

Monday night, husband & I and another of our favorite couples went to dinner at Cheesecake Factory after I sadly learned that NoFo was closed on Monday nights. My dinner was delicious & it & my keylime cheesecake that I got to go were fun for dinner last night too.

As usual, I was spoiled my family & friends. My beach grandparents had given me a Pandora bracelet & cat charm as an early b-day gift Thanksgiving weekend. Jason gave me two clips for it as well as some Loft maternity clothes {that I’d bought on their cyber Mon sale}. I combined birthday checks from Papa & my parents & ordered a Kindle Fire last night! I’m so excited & think it’ll come in handy for nursing, hospital time, bedrest, etc. My sweet MIL & friend B were thinking alike about my love of Lilly & both gave me {totally different} Lilly Murphee scarves! I’ve been wearing them all week. Other friends gave me a gift certificate to my favorite mani/pedi place {yay for relaxing!} & another sweet friend gave me a Gap gift card for some maternity clothes. Spoiled y’all & I know it.

Hope you’re having a great week!
