I’m trying to get caught up on the books I checked out at the library a couple of weeks ago. I renewed them, but am a little late on a 1 week loan. I made the goal of finishing Not My Daughter this weekend~ I did this afternoon! A former coworker turned me onto Barbara Delinsky’s books. I read Family Tree (about a white couple who’s first child is born with mixed/black skin) first and have since read The Secret Between Us (about an accident with a mother & daughter) & While My Sister Sleeps (about two sisters & what happen if one gets hurt). All have been based in New England and have family & family ties as central themes. The premise for Not My Daughter is that the principal of the small town high school finds out her 17 year old daughter is pregnant on purpose. These books aren’t ones you have to concentrate hard to read, but they are a little more thought provoking than the average “chic lit”.
Tonight I started Jodi Picoult’s most recent book, House Rules. It seems to be the story of a family who’s oldest son has Asperger’s & loves forensics. After reading all but one of her books, I know they kinda follow a familiar pattern or twist, but somehow I’m still interested in what happens in each new one that comes out. I tend to like her characters & get hooked in the stories. I think this one will be a pretty quick read~ I’m hoping to have it finished by next weekend so that I can read our book club selection, Midwives, before the 8th. Hope everyone had a good weekend & happy reading!

Lilly Murfee Scarf
Remember my “champagne taste, beer budget” & also “I love deals!” post below?! Well my friend B told me about a deal she’s found & buying~the Lilly Pulitzer Murfee Scarf for 32% off. I’ve been eying them for a while but not for the $118 price. Well I’m in love with this one. Isn’t it cute?! (but maybe not with a popped polo)!
Haven’t seen & probably won’t a deal this good again…So yeah, I’m calling it my Valentine’s Day gift from hubby! I think it’ll be cute with dresses for upcoming weddings as well as fun with pink/white/yellow/melon tops for work & weekends this spring & summer.
Two Awards in One Day!
I went from never getting an award to two in one day. I’d be getting a big head if I was that kinda girl. Luckily I’m not; just dorkily excited. Ha!
So thanks to my girl B for giving me the Master of Karate & Friendship Award. This one makes me LOL!
The Rules for this one: List six things you are a master at/of.
1) I’m a master at multi-tasking. I’m currently blogging, drinking wine, & watching 24.
2) I’m a master at loving things I can’t always afford. Mom’s always said I have champagne tastes & beer budget. This leads to #3…
3) I’m a master shopper for deals. I LOVE a good deal. Day after thanksgiving sales (I’m there!). Day after Christmas sales (Mom, Nana & I are one of the first in line at Crate & Barrel!). Wanted new pair of Jack Rodgers but not for the $93 price~ stalked shoe website til I was able to combine enough coupons to get them for $65!
4) I’m a master traveler. I pack pretty light, I’m a good planner, I’m pretty easy going & I love to have fun. Pick a spot & I’m there! Can’t wait for Ft. Lauderdale in less than 2 weeks!!
5) I’m a master (in training) minor events coordinator. I minored in event planning and really wanted to work in the industry. Didn’t happen. Instead, I love to help host or hostess parties & events for friends. I love the behind the scenes work, the rush of getting a lot done & feeling once you accomplished it, the cooking, and socializing. I don’t enjoy the cleaning (also why I like helping host at other locations!).
6) I’m a master at fun! (One of the reason’s why B & I are such good friends!!) Count me in for nights out, girl’s chill nights, bunco, dinner club & other Chi O alum events, work out get togethers, Christmas parties, you name it I’m probably up for it! This is not to say that I’m bad at the low times, but I do try to always look at the positive. I can do serious heart-to-heart talks & am always there for friends to lean on ~ I’ll be there with a glass of wine & a cupcake or two. You can call me anytime & I’m there to listen & try to make you smile.
So with that sappiness~ can you tell I’m on glass of wine #3?!~ I’m going to try to nominate different blog buddies than the ones below. The below are awesome girls who’s blogs I love & ones I “know” originally from the nest but all I’ve met IRL. They are all masters of karate & friendships too! So here’s to ya’ll: Jenny, Alethea, Jamie, Blair Jenni, & Meredith.
Beautiful Blogger Award
Jenny awesomely included me as one of her Beautiful Bloggers. I feel special! Thanks so much Jenny. You’re so fun & funny & I love that you currently have awesome PINK hair!
So here’s The Rules:
1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
2. Copy the award & place it on you blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
4. Share 7 interesting things about yourself.
5. Nominate 7 bloggers.
Seven things about myself:
1. I love reality TV. From the first time I watched the Real World a loooong time ago, I’ve been hooked. I routinely watch: Biggest Loser, The Batchelor, Big Brother, Real World & all its spin offs, Survivor, Amazing Race, Jon & Kate (pre-divorce), new obsession is 19 kids & counting, and I’m forgetting others I’m sure!
2. I really want to lose weight (I swear!), but I don’t always make healthy eating choices. I love all things bad for you~ pizza, ice cream, take out chicken sandwiches & fries, beer, wine, cookies, cake etc etc. I try to work out more when I’m on bad eating kicks, but I’m not always good about that either! Eek~ Sometimes I want pizza more than I want those 10 pounds gone!
3. I keep clothes & shoes a lot longer than I should. Recent example: The T-shirt I wore this weekend has a hole in the RT armpit & (tiny) holes in the back. Its about 5 years old but its pink & really soft & a great sleep shirt. Instead of trashing it last night, its in the laundry bin. 🙂
4. I love country music & don’t keep up with current top 40 “hits”. I occasionally tune it to G105 or ask friends so I can kinda know what’s going on.
5. I love cheesy romantic comedys. The more predicable the better!
6. I know a lot of people who hate their jobs right now & I’m really thankful & happy with mine.
7. Lastly, I use run-on sentenses. I type in stream of conscience. & I don’t care that I can’t spell! So there. That’s 7 things about me!
It’s hard to nominate 7 ladies. I have a lot of blogs I keep up with regularly. I’m going to go along with Jenny’s plan and go with ladies I’ve met IRL. But anyone who’s reading this (are there 7 of yall?!) is beautiful!! So here’s to you Beth, Nicole, Steph, Holly, Megan, Elissa, & Marie ~ ya’ll are beautiful bloggers & buddies! I’m so thankful I’ve been able to call you a friend & am able to stalk your life (haha!) through your wonderful blogs!
Valentine’s Day 2010
Today’s been a pretty good Valentine’s day. Hope everyone’s had a happy one! Day started out great~ Jason let me sleep in til 10:45! Love it!! I then made blueberry pancakes with the TJ’s buttermilk mix I got for the $1.99 on Friday. They were very fluffy & yummy. I served them with cranberry/oj mimosas left over from Kelly’s kitchen shower yesterday (another post to come). I continued to enjoy mimosas the rest of the morning which made studying for my INS 21 test fun. 🙂
I’d been stalking RedBox all week to find Couples Retreat. Last night it popped up at the Kroger near our house! So Jason & I watched it this afternoon. Although a lot of the funny parts were in previews, I still really enjoyed it. I’m trying to keep up with my goal of watching more movies this year (I’m now looking to rent Time Traveler’s Wife next).
We decided to make dinner at home tonight to celebrate Valentine’s Day instead of fighting crowds & spending a lot of money out. I made my SiL’s chicken casserole & Jason helped me make garlic rice (from a box, were not that good!). Both turned out really well & we have yummy leftovers for lunch/dinner tomorrow!
I’m taking one of my hopefully last insurance tests in 11 hours so I better get off the computer & study. That & our last skinny cow strawberry ice cream sandwich is calling my name!
