Joy of Love: His hobby

I’ve been getting the Joy of Love emails & while I haven’t been able to keep up with both Project 365 & Joy of Love, it has helped me try to take different shots.  Wednesday’s choice was easy & pretty perfect for me:  Day 09, their passions & hobbies.  I grabbed the D5000 & ran into the office turned man-room/video game room.

Den Updo

While at the party Saturday night, my friend Kelly talked me into coming with her to early church then a Pottery Barn design class.  This class was about arranging accessories.  Lisa from Pottery Barn highlighted 5 design ideas for the room.  I was inspired when I got home to rearrange & updo what we already had in our den.

I also bought the glass vase which was originally $39, on sale for $14.99 then I was able to purchase it for $13.50.  I plan to go to Michael’s and get some white flowers to add.  What kind do you recommend? Hydrangeas, tulips?  Lisa also said something that blew my mind a little~ that you could put decor in front of the mirror over your mantel!  I also decorate the ends but never the middle.  She also said to pretend your mantel is a triangle and go from tall to short from middle out.  Based on that, I rearranged what has been on the post-Christmas mantel.  I think I might still change a few things around, but I’m liking the changes already.  What would do you think? Get rid of some of the candle pillars? Add more?  Do less?

Lisa also discussed redoing and adding pillows to create a relaxing but nice way to incorporate textures & colors to the room.  I received the funky owl pillow as a hand-me-down recently & I love it.  We had a falling apart bright red pillow on the couch.  I bought a textured greenish cover with the 10% off class coupon.  I’m loving how they work with the couch.  The snowman pillow is from Perfect Chance Memories & is a preview of what *might* be featured in my upcoming giveaway. {Only 6 more followers until that happens!}

Project 365 Week 5

I remembered a photo everyday this week except for Friday night.  So I took my Friday photo Saturday am.  I also joined up with Willette’s Joy of Love for February, so watch my tumblr/blog for those photos.  Also keeping up with what day is tough now that they aren’t the same as the month day.

Day 29 Saturday night we went out to dinner with friends.  Jason snapped these of me before we left.

Day 30 Sunday was a beautiful day so I took a long walk with a friend, ran errands then relaxed at home.  I was tweeting away Sunday night when Moe decided he’d try to take over the love seat with me.

Day 31 Monday I began a new small group Bible study & also opened my new Willow House purchases.

Day 32 Tuesday night means catching up on The Bachelor online once Jason went to sleep.

Day 33 Wednesday night was a chill night at home.  Moe was fighting his pink Wubba then loving on it.

Day 34 Thursday night was book club {for Art of Racing in the Rain} & Alethea & I stopped by on the way.  I couldn’t resist taking these photos of her & Moe meeting. 🙂

Day 35ish Friday night we ate dinner at home & did laundry.  It was also my first day joining Willette’s Joy of Love.  Jason’s new favorite pj pants falling out of the laundry pile first worked great for Day 5’s theme of {what they wore}.  {actually took photo Saturday morning!}

Everything Else Reading

The Mermaid Chair & Art of Racing in the Rain

I finished The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd over the weekend.  I LOVED her first book, The Secret Life of Bees, when we read it in book club a couple of years ago.  So after reading that, I put Mermaid Chair on my paperback swap wish list.  Once I received the book, it sat in my TBR pile for a while.

I have to say I enjoyed the book while I was reading.  It wasn’t one of those can’t-put-it-down, love-it-forever books, but it was fine.  I loved all the coastal Carolina imagery & thought the author did a great job really making you feel like you were there {or make mewant to be there!}.  I thought the relationships between the women/friends was interesting & good.  I thought the monk character Brother Thomas/Whit was really cool.  But for the life of me right now, I can’t remember the name of the main character.  That I take as not a good sign.

My book club chose The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein as our Feb pick.  I’d never heard of it until it was chosen in December.  I have to say I really enjoyed it.  I started Art on Sunday & finished it Monday night.  I couldn’t put it down & it was a super quick read.

The Art of Racing wasn’t the racing I was expecting, but I loved that surprise!  I learned a lot more about that racing & know a little more now about what Jason’s doing/thinking as he plays & then talks to me about Forza3000.

I loved that it was from the dog, Enzo’s perspective.  I thought Denny was a good character & such as nice guy.  I wish we’d seen more from Eve’s point of view as I really wondered what she was thinking!

I hope Moekitty thinks kinda like Enzo, the super cool pup.  Does Moe have the equivalent to an evil Zebra?!

Up next is March’s book club pick: Lisa See’s Shanghai Girls.
