Badges with Style

Like most employees now-a-days, I have a work badge. But I never wear it. It stays in my purse for a couple reasons. One, so I don’t lose it. Two, because the ugly black lanyard is well, ugly & as silly as it sounds, doesn’t always match. And three, the photo is over four years old & isn’t great. Four, while out on bedrest/maternity leave, I lost the clip & lanyard. “Luckily,” I still have my badge.

But we got an email from the higher ups this week, politely demanding asking reminding us to wear our badges. So I’ve been in search of a cute, cool way to wear my badge.

I found this fabric flower badge reel on etsy & ordered it in green with an etsy gift card I was given from my boss for Christmas {apropo right?}. I’m still thinking that after work, I’ll take it off {so the babies don’t pull or break it} & then forget it the following day.

Any other suggestions? How do you wear your badge? Do you care that it’s cute? {Linking up with Liberating Working Moms Working with Style}

White Chocolate Devil’s Food Cake Cookies

I’d have sworn I’d pinned the recipe for these that I saw on pinterest just before Christmas. But of course, when I opened my boards with cake mix box & white chocolate chips in hand, it wasn’t there.

Instead of really winging it {impossible for me as a baker to do}, I searched pinterest. And though I was unable to find what I’d originally seen, I did discover pinch of yum’s version.  I wasn’t interested in all her add-ons, so I scaled our cookies back to the basics & they were a deliciously huge hit.

bad cell phone photo of really good cookies.

Ingredients

1 box devil’s food cake mix
1 egg
1 stick of butter
tsp vanilla
cup of white chocolate chips

Cream butter in stand mixer. Add in the egg & vanilla. Slowly mix in the box cake mix. Stir in the chips.

Place rounded spoonfuls on greased baking sheets. Bake on 350 for 10-12 mins or until beginning to crack.

Enjoy!

Happy New Year 2013!

Welcome 2013! Hope it’s started out with a bang if you wanted it & a silent night in my house!

I plan to do a 2012 recap soon of my favorite posts of the year. But for now, check out my {& the other LWM contributors} working mom resolutions.

To that list, I want to add making my marriage & adult connection with my husband a priority. Our life as a couple has taken a backseat to us being parents of two babies. I’m resolving to work on getting us back in 2013.

Do you have or make new year’s resoutions? Feel free to link up on LWM if you do!

Sick, party of four

We made it through the Christmas holiday {relatively} sickness free. After their colds & hand foot mouth & Lucy’s bout with pink eye 10 days before, we were feeling lucky to experience a fabulous first Christmas with just little baby colds & Lucy having chapped cheeks. {Christmas post with pics to come}

Then, on the 26th, Zach woke up with his left eye super goopy & stuck shut. His beautiful eye lashes were all matted. I scooped him up in the ergo & carried him close
as we shopped that afternoon. He seemed okay & tolerated eye compresses in the Loft & Crate & Barrel bathrooms. By Wednesday night, though, his eye was still bad & we felt like his little cold wasn’t great either.

Jason got up with me Thurs around 3a for Lucy’s night feeding feeling like he’d been hit by a truck. He’d caught the babies’ cold bad.

Lucy woke up Thurs morning with yellow gunk in her eyes & we realized it’d be a trip to urgent care for both. luckily, we heard about KidMed which was super close by my parents’ house. They opened at 3p & we were waiting at 245. We were impressed by the nurses, doctor & staff. We got in & seen & on our way within an hour. They checked & thankfully both were negative for RSV & the flu. They were diagnosed with viral colds/upper respatory infections & pink eye. A couple days of drops three times a day, & the babies are doing much better.

They got much TLC Thurs & Fri from their Pops & me while Jason rested. We decided to delay going home til they were better.

Of course, Sat, my dad & I woke up stuffy & with sore throats. After a couple doses of dayquil, he felt better, but they didn’t have anything I could take but cough drops . I’ve been struggling through & thankful that my Mom stayed well & Jason was on the mend enough for me to rest Sat evening.

As I write this Sunday afternoon traveling back home, lil crusty noses are all that remains of the babies’ sickness, Jason has the colds-almost-over cough, & I have tissues stuck up my nose. Good times!
