Farm to Fork

In case y’all didn’t know, I work for a Farm based company. Most of the time, that doesn’t mean anything different than most private owned companies. Today though, work hosted a Farm to Fork day. When it was announced I was like, WTH is Farm to Fork?! Well they invited a bunch of local farmers to bring their goods or information about their goods as well as a couple organizations that promote CSAs & NC’s 10% campaign (eat 10% local). Also a fun incentive was free lunch (which included NC State ice cream!) & us being able to wear jeans!

My work friends & I went down around 1030 (it opened at 930) this morning. There was a local bakery there featuring cookies & croissants~ those went really quick! I came home with a large pint of raspberries that were picked yesterday as well as a half dozen apples all for $7. I plan to make raspberry scones & another loaf of this apple bread this weekend. I got some fresh hot apple cider for $1 (it was really cold in that room). They had some guys who have a grass-fed free range beef farm. I don’t eat beef or pork but have told the husband that I *might* if the beef is raised like that. So we’ll see.

Oh the other deal, 7-8′ Christmas trees for $28 that will be delivered to work. I think that was super popular & a great deal (they also had gorgeous wreaths starting at $20). I passed since they’re being delivered the Monday before Thanksgiving & we’ll be out of town and I couldn’t get up with Jason to see if he’d be into that idea. I really hope work does it again in the spring; I’d love to get spring fruits & veggies!

Fall Mountain Fun

I’m back from two fun 3 day trips. I should talk about them in order, but I haven’t received the wedding photos yet so I’m blogging about the work trip first.

Two of my underwriting coworkers and I left Monday at 1 to head to the mountains. We arrived in the Hendersonville/Flat Rock around just in time for the hotel’s happy hour. We stayed at Mountain Lodge which was an amazing quaint place. It is even prettier in person. They had appetizers and wine from 5-7 daily & hot breakfast every morning. Some of my agents met us for dinner at Mezzaluna in the cute downtown Hendersonville Monday night. I had a Sweetwater Blue, shared appetizers with the group & the Manicotti for dinner. My friend ordered a pasta with peas that she didn’t love, so she helped me finish mine!

Tuesday morning started out early as we made our way up the mountains to Lake Lure. We were there for a district meeting which met at Rumbling Bald Resort. Some of the group went on a quick lake tour and others had a horseshoes tournement. I chatted & cheered them on. We also had lunch under a tent on the lake shore {burgers & hot dogs~ I ate cheese & tomato on a bun~ as well as the best potato salad ever}. Most everyone left after lunch, but we hopped on golf carts and hung out {& did a little golf clapping} with the 4 foursomes that we’re playing golf. It was so pretty with great views so I took a few photos with my phone of Eileen & Gwen & the course.
After golf we went to one of Eileen’s agent’s homes on the lake. He & his wife took us out on an almost 2 hour ride showing us all the beautiful homes & even the Dirty Dancing “I carried a watermelon stairs”. I’d left my camera (aka my phone) at their house, but Eileen took these while we were out on the water.
After the boat ride which included a few appetizers and beers, we went to dinner with them at View at the Point. Here’s the view of the lake from the restaurant at dusk.We ended the night in our room with a bottle of wine & Dancing with the Stars. 🙂

Wednesday morning we stopped by three different offices: Transylvania, Henderson & Polk on our way back to Raleigh. Two of the Henderson Co agents took us to a farm stand and bought us fresh NC apples. I also bought hot cider {it was a chilly morning!} and an apple cake mix that I plan to make tomorrow night. We left western NC by 1 and they dropped me off at home before 5. I had a great time visiting a new-to-me part of the state and getting to know the people I talk to over the phone most of the day. I’m calling this my thankful Thursday post because I really am grateful that I work with such awesome people and a company that pays for me to go visit with them!
Also thankful for picnik which I tried for the first time tonight! You’ll be seeing more of their photo collages!

Work Trip

posting from my phone so please excuse errors!

Last weekend we went to OIB & Wilmington for a wedding. I will post photos later once I get them from my parents.

We returned from the beach (with a sunburn to prove it!) yesterday afternoon. I left today for the NC mountains. I’ll be out here until Wednesday afternoon. We’re going to a meeting tomorrow at Lake Lure and the spending the rest of the time hanging out with the agents I work with. I’ll post again once I’m back in town!

Have a great week!

First OIB Trip of 2010

I was about to title this post “First Beach Trip of 2010”, but I remembered that I’d been to FL. Oops! But OIB is “my” or even “our” beach since Jason & I got married around there. I CAN’T wait! Toes in the sand, freckles out, a few tan lines, & frosty drinks!! Also hoping to get in some reading time. The weather is supposed to be fabulous. I’ll try to take a few pictures.

Update with photo~ couldn’t resist posting this cute one (the only photo I took all weekend!) of Jason & Bocce. It’s so hard to keep Bocce still. This is the best we could do!So far this has been a good week for Jason & I. 🙂 I’ll update y’all on Jason’s work news & maybe car news next week. We also found out we’ll be getting money back on our taxes!

MIA

Sorry I’ve been MIA; I know y’all have been sitting on the edge of your seats wondering what I’ve been up to. No? Anyone?! 😛

I had a work trip to Greensboro Sun-Tues last week. I had a great time with my work girls. There’s four of us so it worked perfect for riding together & being roommates. The conference was for the agency force & underwriters are invited more for fun. I enjoyed meeting the people I email & talk on the phone with all day at work. A few of them surprised me, but I’d used our photo search function at work so I was able to spot most of them. I do have to say that I work with a lot of wild people! I was pretty tame & was still up until 230-3 both Sunday & Monday nights! Needless to say, the rest of last week I was playing catch up on sleep.

Friday my in laws came to visit from GA. It’s a 6+ hour trip so we don’t get to see them as much as we’d both like. It was actually the first time they’d been up here in a few years (we usually meet at the beach). They live in a small town without malls or restaurants, so we tried to make up for that!! We let them decide food & restaurants, so in three days we hit up Outback, Cheesecake Factory & Lonestar. We also went to Nordstrom at Southpoint & by Jason’s works. I also went to my friend Holly’s little girl’s 1st birthday party. She was too cute & loving her birthday cake & icing!!

You might be able to hear my sniffles & coughing all the way at your computer! Somehow the little tickle in my throat on Friday/Saturday turned into full blown chest cold by Sunday afternoon. I spent most of yesterday going from the bed to the couch! Sadly, I gave it to Jason too. Needless to say, I’ve been to Food Dog (not quite the quality of a Lion but gotta love the prices) three times in as many days to get G2, OJ & Mucinex. I think it’s working because although I look like a faucet, I am feeling better. Hope the spring forward sickness didn’t get anyone else!
