Zach: Seven Months

Our Zach. He’s Mommy’s boy for sure. He likes others: his daycare ladies, his Daddy, his Pops & Cici. But if he’s the least bit tired, hungry, or sees me while being held by someone else, he’s arms out whining until I scoop his lil booty up.

Zach sleeps pretty well. He continues to take two naps at daycare. And he usually sleeps from 830-7a getting up once or twice a night for nursing & snuggling. His favorite is to sleep on us on the couch or cuddling with me in bed 4a on, but we try to not have that happen much.

And speaking of little booty, I weighed him on his month day & he was exactly 14 pounds. I’ve transitioned him to size 2 in his Huggies naturals & he’s a size two in the honest co disposables we’re trying too.

He still fits girth size in 3 month clothes, but one piece outfits look like capris. I’ve been retiring them to pass down. And I’ve been putting him in 3-6 mo & introducing 6 more clothes. Our stash of hand-me-downs has dwindled, but I found some Carter’s deals I’m looking forward to him wearing.

Zach recently had his first high fever & doses of baby Tylenol. I’m pretty sure he had hand foot mouth only in his month. It occurred just days after his sister’s bout of it & just a day after getting his first two bottom teeth! The left front bottom popped out the Sat after I saw the right tooth Fri afternoon. It was quite a busy few days.

Zach is all but sitting unassisted. He gets into crawling position but hasn’t made any moves yet. Zachy discovered his feet within the last couple weeks but still likes eating his fingers best. He loves reading books, the birdy on the exersauser, & of course, his monkey wubba.

He loves reaching for our food. I can no longer eat while he nurses. He’s still nursing well {besides the days he had a fever}. We’ve upped his bottles to 5 oz of fortified breast milk after his daycare teachers saying he still seemed hungry after 4.5 oz. Over the last week, we stopped the zantac reflux medicine & haven’t noticed him having reflux issues.

We started solids right after Thanksgiving. First rice cereal {not a fan}, then when Mom was down a couple weekends later, I made avocado, sweet potato & banana baby food in the baby bullet. Zach loves avocado! He’s okay about the other two. I have plans to try him with organic purchased pouches & jar food over the Christmas holiday.

Happy 7 months my littlest buddy! {Will add photos soon}

Lucy: Six Months

Happy first Thanksgiving to Lucy! We’re so thankful & grateful for her arrival & health. And thankful to the joy she’s brought to our lives.

Six months {& exactly one day from the time this will post} since Lucy girl arrived! It feels like she’s been here forever & at the same time, like no time at all! This month has been another big month for developments & changes.

Lucy loves her feet. She has a blast on the changing table playing with her knees & reaching for her toes. She loves to stick out her long tongue & ‘chat’ L & B sounds while we’re getting her dressed too.

She will bust out the biggest laughs when Jason’s blowing raspberries on her tummy or when I give her loud cheek kisses. She isn’t as quick to smile at everyone, but it’s worth it to work a little for her smiles & the best sounding laugh.

I place them on blankets in the middle of the floor to play when we get home at night. She’s been rolling from back to side to belly around for a little while. Now she’s doing full on rolls where we can’t leave her on a blanket without turning around to find that she’s rolled off. She’s also having fun playing with toys now. Y’all saw her having fun with the NA Bear Co squeaker in that review post. She’s a fan of this toy elephant & this colorful ball/rattle too.

She likes tummy time more now {thanks daycare} & will push herself up pretty high on her arms. Her knees though, aren’t quite pulled up under her yet.

We broke out the exersaucer this month & Lucy’s a big fan {especially when she turns herself to be able to watch TV too}. She still likes the swing & is okay in the bumbo seat although I think she’s outgrowing that as she tries to push herself up & out of it.

All the sudden Lucy has hair. It’s very fine & whispy & light brown. I can’t wait to put {little} bows in it, if she’ll let me.

And speaking of accessories, Lucy’s firmly wearing 3-6 month clothes. I’ve squeezed her in a few Carter’s 3 mo separates still & she has one pair of Circo 3 mo pjs that still fit. Carter’s & Old Navy 6 mo clothes that I thought would be too big for the holidays fit her great. We’re putting her in wearable blankets at night over her pjs to keep her warmer.

Lucy still loves food. I’ve bumped up her bottles from 4 oz to closer to 5 oz for daycare. She takes her time nursing with me as she thinks it’s serious business that can’t be interrupted.

Lucy is our better sleeper at night. For the past week or so, she’s going to bed around 8p {sometimes 730, sometimes 9}, and about once or twice a week, she’ll sleep until we get her up around 730. Hallelujah! Although my boobs don’t mind it if/when she wakes up for a quick night feed around 330a.

She’s wearing size two Luvs diapers overnight and mostly our AIO cloth diapers {loving the AC size ones still but she’s starting to outgrow the itti bitti smalls} during the week. I tend to use the Flip inserts & covers & BG AIOs with her for the weekend.

I plan to take her 6 monthday photos before we head out for our family Thanksgiving weekend. I’ll update with photos when I can.

Zach: Six Months

How has half a year past since this little guy stole my heart?! On this, his first, Thanksgiving day, I’m so grateful for Zach’s arrival into our lives. His smiles brighten & bring joy to everyone who sees them, especially me.

Zach is such a happy baby. Even though he’s had a cold/sniffles/cough pretty much for two month straight, he continues to smile through it. Zach experienced his first ‘sick’ day last week when he went solo to the doctor {without sister for the first time}. The doctor called his sick a sinus infection & he’s taken his first round of antibiotics {since via IV in the NICU}. He took his 3 mls of amoxicillin great mixed in 20 mls of my milk morning & night.

We think his reflux issues are getting better, but we have continued to give him 1 ml of zantac mixed in with 20 mls of breast milk twice a day. He’s spit up more this month than before but doesn’t seem to bother him.

I noticed him grabbing the bottles while I gave him his mixed medicine & then daycare clued me in that he mostly holds his bottles there. So we tried it last weekend & he held his own big bottle for a feeding. It was too cute!

He’s eating well {takes all his 4 oz bottles at daycare & he’s our speed nurser}. He weighed 13 lbs with his outfit on at the pediatrician a week and a half ago. I’m looking forward to getting his official 6 month stats next week. At 13 lbs, he’s still on the {very} small side for 6 months old. He’s still wearing 0-3 month clothes {especially pjs}, 3 month Circo & Carter’s, & 3-6 month Old Navy.

We continue to put Zach in size one Huggies naturals at night. I haven’t really been using the Kissaluvs as much on the weekends although he can still squeeze into them. He wears our AIO cloth diaper stash at daycare where we pack him the more trim ones.

Zach is a great napper. Daycare laughs & says they see him more asleep than awake! He’s not a fan of napping in the crib though; he passes out during tummy time over a boppy & will sleep for two hours easy. Once we learned the boppy trick, we’ve gotten him to take two plus hour long weekend naps in a pack-n-play while laying over a boppy.

Great naps, mixed with little guy, with {maybe solved} reflux, means that he has yet to sleep for more than six hours straight. But that’s okay, I don’t mind my quiet, alone nursing time with Zach. We usually put him down {for a while in the rock-n-play in our room due to his sniffles} around 9p. He’ll wake up around 1 & 4 or sometimes just once around 230 or 3. Zach will quickly fall back asleep on me but getting him back down can be tough. This is when I will call upon Jason to wake up & take over on the couch so I can get a little more sleep before work. Yay co-parenting!

Zach has always been our tummy time rock star. He’s now up on all fours but hasn’t yet crawled. Daycare thinks he’ll be our first crawler though. It took him a bit longer to roll over ~ he was happy on his back or side. But now he’s rolling too & has happily discovered we’ll let him sleep on his stomach now that we know he can roll around.

Zach likes sitting up too. Either leaning a little on me, a boppy, the couch or a pillow or in the bumbo chair. I’m working on him sitting up on his own while we play on blankets in the evenings after daycare/work. He also has discovered toys this month. He loves to play with the ones on the exersaucer, the colorful rattle ball & crinkle elephant. Zach’s biggest toy love though are his wubbas. He will have the biggest smiles while holding onto his monkey or throwing it around.

I’ll update with the 6 month-day photos when I have a chance to upload.

Zach: Five Months

Our Zach has had a cold/runny nose/cough for weeks now thanks to daycare. But you’d never know it by his near constant smile. Tongue out, wide gummy grin. He’s beginning to be more vocal now too. Zach has a softer voice than Lucy, but its worth listening closely for, as are his giggles. He’s quite willing to smile at everyone. And bat those to-die-for lashes. He’s going to be quite the lady killer.

Zach loves to be held. He will look around constantly taking everything in. He’ll only lay his head down on you when he’s sleepy. Standing is his favorite activity. He’ll do squats like he might be a future weight lifter. 🙂 He’s great at reverse push ups during tummy time but hasn’t yet figured out how to roll from back to belly or vice versa.

Zach is our night owl & has been sleeping in the rock-n-play in our room. It sits him up which helps him breath through the sniffles better. He won’t nap in a crib at daycare either. He crashes on the floor or swing or this turtle thing for hours long naps.

He’s continued to wake about every 4-5 hours to nurse. Our breastfeeding relationship is still going well. He usually finishes his 4 oz bottles for daycare but sometimes leaves an ounce behind. He’s still taking zantac morning & evening for reflux which seems to really help.

Zach is in 0-3 or 3 mo clothes. Carter’s fits him well because he’s still a narrow lil dude. We’re guessing he’s around 12 pounds. He can still wear the kissaluv size 0 fitteds & XS covers although he’s in AIO or pocket cloth diapers at daycare. Overnight he’s still fitting in size 1 Huggies naturals.

Lucy: Five Months

Our Lucy girl is such a joy. Her chattering continues to crack us up. Her smiles are always very bright in the morning & when she sees us throughout the day. She saves her big laughs for special occasions ~ belly raspberries on the changing table with me & her Daddy’s silly faces.

Lucy’s had two big developments this past month. She now will flip onto her tummy {rolling always from the right side} quicker than you can blink when we lay her down on her back in her crib. She’ll then tuck up her feet like a lil froggy & turn her head towards the wall & sleep at least for a good seven hours straight. That means if she falls asleep after a busy daycare day at 8p, that she’ll typically wake up around 3-4 to nurse before she fairly easily goes back into her crib for another few hours. Weekends though she’s been a sleeping rock star. She slept 10-8 Saturday night! Thank you Lucy girl!

Her other new trick is pulling herself from laying down on a boppy to sitting up with us holding each hand. She gets such a big smile when we cheer as she does it. She’ll lay back down on the boppy & hold her hands out to do it again & again. It’s so cool to see. On her monthday, she continued to standing up too.

She puts everything in her mouth. She still loves her thumb, likes the wubba, Sophie’s okay, as is pretty much anything else in her reach including my hair. She’s continued to be an eating champ, a nursing pro & finishes every one of her 4 oz bottles at daycare. Our ‘happy spitter’ is still living up to that name but she doesn’t seem bothered by it.

I don’t have official size updates since she doesn’t go back to the doctor {hopefully} until her six month appointment at the end of Nov. But I’d guess she’s over 15 pounds now. She’s out of almost all 0-3 mo clothes, she fits well into her 3 month clothes {Circo & Carter’s pjs}, some 3-6 clothes {Old Navy, Gymboree} & a few 6 mo Carter’s.

My little girl has been having wardrobe malfunctions at daycare. She’s peeing out of her cloth diapers almost every day. She goes to daycare in something cute, & comes home in a rag tag mix of what she was wearing & what’s in her spare clothes bin. I’d been setting aside the bigger of our daycare cloth diapers for my big girl, but starting the end of last week, mixed in some of the smaller ones hoping that will solve some pee leaking issues. Lucy has graduated to size two disposable diapers at night {we’re currently using Luvs on her with no issues}.

Can’t wait to see what this next month holds. So far, I’m loving this age/stage!
