Badges of Honor

I had a breakfast mid-morning meeting & was getting together college friends for an after work happy hour last Thursday. I wanted to look nice for the day. So I got dressed in pants, heels & my nursing tank. I waited until after Zach & Lucy’s diaper & outfit changes & nursing sessions were complete before throwing on my sweater. But then, while bending down to get them ready to go into their car seats, both crawled over & grabbed me at the shoulders. As I pulled both in for hugs & kisses, I felt it. The dampness on my shoulders. I was marked.

I had ‘Mommy shoulders’. At that point, I had two options: change clothes & be late to work trying to figure out a new cute outfit, or two, wear my sweater anyways. I sighed & laughed & went with option two. Hoping my curly hair worn down & a fun grey necklace would take the spotlight.

My ‘Mommy shoulders’ are my current badges of honor. Proof that my struggles with infertility are over. Proof that all the hard work of TTC & a multiples pregnancy were worth it. I have babies that love & adore me as much as I do them. And if that means I go to work & sneak out to meet friends with drool on my sleeves & not my snot on my shoulders so be it. I wear them with laughter, love & pride.

Zach: Ten Months

I’m still kinda in shock that I’m writing TEN month posts. Double digits. It’s wild. As I’m typing this evening, Z {& L too} are taking great evening car-seat naps. They’ve started dropping those. But I think at the end of the week, they’re tired. So they’re napping; I’m furiously writing. {Written Fri. They woke up soon after.}

Zach is pretty awesome these days {minus the biting}. But even with it, I understand he’s just learning & exploring the fact that he has SIX teeth in his tiny mouth! His two bottom ones are very easy to see in his open mouth smiles. It takes opening & lifting his top lip to see the four up there. It’s very cool.

I’m not sure if it’s the teeth. Or peer pressure from the rest of his classmates {& sister} eating. Or just being old enough that food tastes good to him. But he now eats fabulously at daycare. And well here 75% of the time. Zach always does great with finger foods & puffs, graham crackers, etc. He’s began to open his mouth for me to give him solids too. He likes yogurt & fruits as well as veggies & potatoes & beans too. We did chicken one night & he liked those bites. I need to start doing more meats as well as pureeing our food.

Zach’s doing great taking fortified bottles {1 tsp of enfacare formula in 6 oz of my milk}. He gets 3/day at daycare & 1-2 more before bed at home. He nurses with me overnight & first thing in the morning. On weekends, he’ll nurse overnight, all day then get 2 bottles in late afternoon & evening.

Between the bottles & food, I really think he’s put on weight in the last month. At his appt tomorrow morning, I’m hoping for over 16 lbs. I think he might be there based on how 6 mo clothes are now fitting & the 3-6 mo ones he’s worn since Nov no longer fit. He’s also leaking a little with size 2 disposable diapers. And the small cloth diapers are looking silly on him.

Zach Ten Months
Capturing a ten month old sitting still is near impossible!

Wubbas are still his bffs {he now has a monkey, giraffe & a tiger}. We also have a red crinkly block that he’ll throw/push/play with crawling around the room. He’s recently a big fan of putting socks or bibs in his mouth & crawling around with them too. Its hilarious.

Zach pulls up & cruises all along the coffee table & couch {especially in search of me}. But he’s not standing solo or walking yet. But that’s coming very soon.

Zach falls asleep between 730-830p {usually after a bottle snuggling with his Dada on the couch on a pillow}. He sleeps well in his crib on all fours with his booty in the air typically until between 1 &3a. He’ll nurse quickly & fall asleep. But he’s a big fan of co-sleeping with us for the rest of the night. Thankfully he hasn’t had any more accidents. We usually have to wake him up around 730a to get going on weekdays & he might sleep til 830a on weekends.

I’m so blessed with late sleepers. I still swear that 530a is the middle of the night. Hell, so is 630a for us!

Happy 10 months {a few days later} Poo! {Yes, Zachy Poo’s been shortened to just Poo. & he’ll look up when you say it. :)}

PS- this weekend we discovered Zach can wave & clap!!

Lucy: Ten Months

Lucy is a hilarious handful. She’s vocally learning to express what she likes including happy grunts when she sees us {especially her Daddy} & very sleepy hums when she’s overtired. She is a speed crawler & cruiser, but no independent standing or walking yet. That’s not holding her back so far in getting where she wants to go.

I’d say 75% of the time, Lucy sleeps through the night. She’ll fall asleep nursing/being held or rocked by her Daddy between 8-9 & sleep until 7-730ish. If she does wake up at night, she earns her ‘sleepy bear’ aka ‘angry bear’ nickname. She can be quite the wild bear to get back to sleep if she’s up & wants to play/crawl/chat. Thankfully, I can typically get her back down, but a couple nights last week, it took multiple times nursing plus walking & rocking to finally knock her out.

Lucy 10 mos

She’s wearing 9 mo or 9-12 mo play clothes & pjs & will most definitely be moving to 12 mo clothes for this spring. I have been able to reuse a few 3-6 & 6 mo dresses recently as tunics/tops with leggings. She doesn’t do as well with dresses though because she will put the bottoms of them right into her mouth! Lucy girl chews & drools on everything!

Lucy has 4 teeth: two on the bottom & two on top. I wouldn’t be surprised though if more bottom or top ones came through soon. Sophie & other teething toys & not teething toys {paper & books are favorites!} are all gnawed on.

Lucy also is a big fan of whatever toy Zach is playing with. Doesn’t matter what it is. If Zach has it, she wants it. And “big” sister isn’t afraid to grab & steal. Oh the pay back she’ll get one of these days for being the bully. But it’s just awesome seeing their interaction recently. They love seeing the other in the mornings & will greet the other with the biggest smiles & laughs. I truly believe they’ll have a language all to themselves as they already ‘chat’ to each other!

Speaking of being “big”, last time I weighed us, I think Lucy was just over 19 pounds! She’s still a great nurser {nursing with me around 730a, bottles at daycare at 11, 230 & 5, then with me around 7 & 830}. At daycare, she gets breakfast {cheerios, banana, waffles} if we get them there before 8. We’ll usually do a brunch solids on weekends that are a mix of above foods &/or yogurt. During the week at daycare, they get lunch solids {purees I’ve made} then an afternoon snack {typically yogurt & cracker/puffs}. Then depending how the evenings going, she’ll usually get dinner solids too {typically a mix of fruit/veggies/protein/carbs}. We haven’t done meats much yet.

Lucy likes purees a lot; as long as they’re kinda sweet. I “trick” her into eating avocado/black beans by mixing in banana/blueberry puree. Same with peas/green beans/white potatoes, I throw puree pears in the mix. Without the fruit, she’ll spit it out.
With the fruit, she gobbles it down. Silly, girl.

But hey! I don’t blame her. She comes from a long line of sweets loving ladies. Lucy also enjoyed bits of my vanilla froyo & tangerines at Costco a couple wekeends ago {of course, I later read those are no nos for the under 1 year crowd!}. Oops! That’s coming up sooner that I want! ::buries head in sand::

Happy 10 months Lucy girl!

{the BabyCenter chart as disapeared from my link. Those stats might come later}

{photos to come soon I hope}

Lone Wolf

IMG_20130322_185343I’ve read almost everything by Jodi Picoult, but it’s been at least a year since I read anything from here.

I almost immediately remembered why I love her books. I like her style. The way the words flow & how you’re captured & taken into the story so quickly.

I knew little about wolves going into this novel. {Besides my beloved NCSU Wolfpack, of course.} I loved the fact that one of the main characters was a biologist who literally lived with & cared over packs of wolves. I found that aspect of Lone Wolf so fascinating. Like most Jodi Picoult novels, this one was told from the different characters perspectives {love that!} & I looked forward to Luke’s sections so much so I could read from inside his mind.

I think I was a little let down but not surprised by the way Lone Wolf ended. Often Jodi Picoult books have crazy twist endings {My Sister’s Keeper anyone?}, this one kind of didn’t. And I was okay with that.

I was too engulfed in Lone Wolf to leave this to the pump room alone; I was up way too late reading & finishing this last week. I was on such a Jodi Picoult high after I finished that I’ve moved on to the next Picoult novel in my TBR pile. My Perfect Match review will be coming soon.
