Brunch with Papa

This past weekend was a busy one for me & Lucy & Zach. We were all in Charlotte for my good friend B’s wedding. I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid so I was running back & forth from wedding events uptown & loving/hugging/nursing babies who were being watched by my parents & my Papa at his condo/near by hotel room. I will post later this week on the wedding {those photos are on the husband’s phone since mine died}.

But I did remember to charge my phone Saturday night & took a few sweet photos while we brunched with Papa & his friends at their club house. We had a private room which was fabulous & also meant that we weren’t worried about the babies being loud {they weren’t} or a distraction {they were, but a good one}. After everyone ate, Lucy & Zach were passed around the table for giggles. Lucy especially loved it when Papa tried to nibble on her toes too.

We walked the fully, sleepy babies back to the condo where we quickly packed up. And took this shot of our four generations!

Lucy & Zach were asleep before we got on the highway & both slept until minutes before we got home. Score!

Babies First Easter

Last Easter was my last time travelling while pregnant/without babies in hand. It seems like a lifetime & just weeks ago at the same time.

My parents, Lucy, Zach & I packed up & headed down to my grandparents’ on OIB Thursday night. Lucy & Zach slept & did great until about 15 minutes left & then I was finding Baby Eisten videos on youtube as quick as they would load!

Friday, we brought Lucy & Zach along for Mom, Nana & I to make Walmart & grocery store runs. They fell asleep in the van so we ended up shopping in shifts leaving one adult & both babies in the car at all stores. My Nana has agreed to make Lucy & Zach baptism outfits using the fabric from my mom’s wedding dress. We found patterns at Walmart & I’m so excited!

Friday night, my mom made this awesome shrimp & wild rice casserole. The recipe will soon be it’s own post & to be remade soon at my house.

Saturday morning, I took a mommy break with my Nana & went to Happy Nails for a pedicure & my first shallac manicure. So far, my nails are holding up to all that two babies can throw at them. I returned in time to feed both & for Lucy to take a nap while Zach accompanied Jason, Nana, my mom & me to the local neighborhood Easter egg hunt & raw egg toss. We just watched from the sidelines this year. But it’ll be so fun for Lucy & Zach to participate next year in something that’s been going on since before I was born!

Saturday afternoon, Mom & I took the babies for a long stroll {yay for stroller naps!}. We took over the floor in my grandparents’ den with baby toys. Their dog Bocce was unsure what to think of mobile babies at first. He quickly learned to like them after we let him clean up the floor around their high chairs! And he learned quick to follow behind to pick up dropped Cherrios from the stuffed plastic eggs we gave them to play with.

We dyed Easter eggs that evening. The babies thought they were pretty cool.

Sunday we started off at the beach church service. Both babies were interested at first then got warm & snuggly on us & took a nap. I found their super cute, casual & coordinating without being too matchy/matchy bunny onesies at The Children’s Place on clearance btw.

We arrived home by late afternoon {the babies napped most of the car ride while I read a book in the back seat!}, enjoyed Easter lunch KFC leftovers for dinner & went to bed early. Happy {late} Easter all!

Babies’ First Christmas

I admired everyone else’s Christmas posts & swore I’d have ours done before a month went by. Oops! This is fairly pathetic but typical to my life now that I just this week downloaded the 300+ Christmas photos off the DSLR. So yeah, more than two months later, here’s Zach & Lucy’s first Christmas in photos.

Christmas Eve some friends stopped by & one of them took this great photo of our extended family {on my Dad’s side}. Zach & I opening one gift of his Christmas Eve {Lucy was already asleep}. Zach also woke up first early Christmas morning so we played with his Great Nana by the tree until Sister woke up then they played together on the den floor until everyone else in the house joined us.

We open stockings in the basement in pjs & the babies fell asleep on us. Clearly they were impressed. 😛 Zach & Lucy enjoyed round after round of gifts included an owl hoodie for Zach & his first set of Nerf balls. We attempted pea purees Christmas night aka bath time!

We stayed up at my parents’ for a few days after Christmas. These are a few of my favorites from the 26th & 27th {Lucy under the tree, Kisses from Daddy & Pops, my attempt at a Lucy & Zach in coordinating jammies shot was a fail for Zach.

 We enjoyed an awesome first Christmas having Lucy & Zach around. We were all spoiled especially them!

2012 Year in Review

Wow. It’s taken me two weeks to share my favorite posts of 2012. I ended up re-reading most of my posts; taking myself back to that moment & even shedding some {happy & sad} tears. What a year 2012 was for my family. I was trying to limit these to my one-two favorite posts per month. I think I ended up with four {or more!} for each though.

January was almost all happy posts. I shared about being thankful to friends & family, how I was eating for four, my 18 week update, grieving life as I knew it based on ‘triplets’, & a few days of sickness {that ended up timing exactly when the ultrasound tech said baby B stopped forming. I’m still wondering if that’s just a sad coincidence}.

February posts start off hard. I shared the results of our 18 week big ultrasound in two posts: one about the loss of baby B & another about babies A & C. Then my babies showers began later that month. First up was my owl themed friends shower then was my coworker friends shower.

March, we made some decisions.  Then updated them. Family friends in VA threw us a shower. And we ended the month by purchasing a minivan!

April was packed! I had a work shower, revealed the babies’ names, thought I was in labor, made & updated our prebabies to-do list, took a bunch of classes & got ready to cloth diaper.

May was an unforgetable month for our household. We did maternity photos just in the nick of time. I blissfully unaware turned 32 weeks right before pPROM’d the following day. I made it on bedrest to 34 weeks & shared my thoughts on my last pregnant days. Zach arrived at 2:59a May 21st & Lucy followed almost 8.5 hours later.

June was busy at home & slow on the blog. I shared my Bell’s Palsey & a look back at our almost two weeks of NICU life. I also talked about breastfeeding the duo.

July I shared how breastfeeding was going, a day in the life with 6 week old preemies, the nicknames for L & Z & my crazy postpartum issues.

August was when I started sharing our favorites of our delivered food in Make Ahead Meals. Jason went back to work & I vented about elusive sleep & hard breastfeeding days.

September meant beginning to get the hang of being a mom & going back to work. The babies took their first trip to Charlotte for B & Kevin’s shower.

October, I began writing for Liberating Working Moms; posting my decision to go back to work & how I make it work for us. I talked about cloth diapering at daycare, our love of Apple Cheeks diapers & my newborn twin must haves. We took the babies to their first pumpkin patch & I shared thoughts on the best diet ever. We celebrated Halloween at daycare.

November started off with a trip to VA & ended the month with Thanksgiving at OIB. Otherwise it was a bit of a confessional month. I shared my definition of family, I talked about pumping at work twice on LWM, I disclosed that we were no longer a pet family, I confessed that I was feeling overwhelmed, & then I updated after their 6 mo appt & starting solids.

December is one of my favorite months. The babies met Santa, we got their first Christmas tree, I turned 31, & I shared our Christmas card. I posted a Working with Style on LWM {that ended up being featured on BlogHer. I did an updated day in our life. Lucy {& then Zach} got hand foot & mouth & Zach {& then Lucy} got their two bottom teeth & then we ended up spending the last days of 2012 sick.

Happy New Year 2013!

Welcome 2013! Hope it’s started out with a bang if you wanted it & a silent night in my house!

I plan to do a 2012 recap soon of my favorite posts of the year. But for now, check out my {& the other LWM contributors} working mom resolutions.

To that list, I want to add making my marriage & adult connection with my husband a priority. Our life as a couple has taken a backseat to us being parents of two babies. I’m resolving to work on getting us back in 2013.
